Swynnerton Training Camp
It was an amazing camp with the CCF, although I took one look at the showers and decided that dry shampoo would do for 3 days.

A place on the Imber bus trip held annually each year - Saturday 19th August 2023 - it is literally a there and back trip as you could not see much - there was obviously an army exercise that day so we were not allowed all the way round but it gives you an idea of what goes on

Dreghorn Barracks
I walked around the army barracks at Dreghorn and it was a most enjoyable experience. You access the walk by driving along the A720 City of Edinburgh bypass until you come to a sign for Dreghorn Barracks. The barracks are on Redford Road the B701.I walked around Dreghorn Woods which lie to the west of Dreghorn Barracks. The way to enter the Dreghorn Woods is to use the entrance just to the west of the entrance to Dreghorn Barracks itself. It is a lovely woods with plenty of paths to walk on.It has trenches in it which were used as training facilities for soldiers during World War 1.I also walked around the east side of Dreghorn Barracks as well. There are two ways to enter this walk.If you look at the main entrance to Dreghorn Barracks you will notice the road leading up to the checkpoint to enter the barracks and on either side of the road are two archways with pavements leading up to the checkpoint. If you go through the archway on the left hand side of the road and walk towards the checkpoint there is a path to your left starting at the checkpoint itself which follows the perimeter fence of the barracks.Alternatively if you turn left before the archway on the left hand side of the road and start to walk east you will notice a path into the Dreghorn Woods that lie to the east of Dreghorn Barracks. You can walk through these woods and you can also from these woods access the path that follows the perimeter fence of the barracks.I would recommend a visit to the Dreghorn Barracks and Dreghorn Woods.
