Blackford Quarry
Interesting disused quarry, sometimes frequented by climbers. One of those places you see and wonder why and when did that happen.I believe the quarry was used between 1826 and 1875 for road building material. To the east is a larger cut now partly infilled and planted with trees. Its more easily distinguished looking from the Braids acrosss the Glen. The lower entry point is used by the council, so watch out for lorries if your walking in from the east along Blackford Glen road.Nearby and of geological and historical interest is Agassiz Rock, a quarry-like feature, which was the first evidence of the action of glaciers to be found in Scotland. In 1840 Swiss geologist Louis Agassiz argued that the cuts and scrapes had been made by ice. He also stated that the shape of Edinburgh Castle's rock and the Royal Mile had been formed by ice sheet activity.

Great place for a relaxing walk, many spots away from residential nuisance.

Brig o' Stack
This was an unexpected find after visiting the Castle ruins, so pleased I carried on walking. It’s along the John O’Groats Trail.Massively impressive cliffs with the North Seas crashing against the cliffs some 30m below and wind howling. When you cross the natural arch you can see so much more and also the crazy platform you’ve just been standing on forming a scary photo in itself.Worth a visit

Brig o' Stack
Huge stack near the Castle of Old Wick. Very impressive with crashing waves all around it. Well worth the stop during our NC500 tour.
