Watermead Country Park North was acquired by Leicestershire County Council in 1982 after the site had been excavated commercially for sand and gravel extraction. Originally farmland on the SoarValley floodplain, the site is bordered by the River Soar and the GrandUnionCanal. The site was opened as a country park in the mid 1980s after extensive development work,

You can do so many variations of walks on hobson Moor that it would take you weeks to get round to repeating the same walk.

Hutton Country Park
This is an underrated treasure of a park that only locals really know about and use. Superb fields, woods and boardwalk to explore. Amazing bluebells in spring! We love this place.

Witton Country Park
Had a day out with the family today and had a lovely time. The weather was amazing and so was the company. There are several car parks with several disabled parking which is free for blue badge holders and £2 for the day for everyone else which is very reasonable. As for the park, it's very clean and tidy. Plenty of bins and loads of benches for you to rest on. Several play areas for the children to enjoy with climbing frames, swings etc.We went to the on site café and something to eat and it's nothing to write home about. The food was okay but definitely NOT worth the price we paid. The drinks were okay but delivered about 20 minutes before the food. They are dog friendly as long as they are on leads and behave themselves. It's a bit cramped inside but there is plenty of outside seating. There are toilets round the sides of the café. I didn't go in so can't comment. The paths we used were pram and wheelchair friendly, maybe a little bumpy though. There's a river that is accessible so you can cool your dogs down in. Lots of open fields to let the kids run wild and tire themselves out.All in all it was a good day and would definitely recommend.Plenty if picnic benches dotted around.

Pleasley Pit Country Park & Local Nature Reserve
Lovely place to visit whether it's with others using the cafe or just to reflect on one of the benches dotted about. Could use a few more dog poo bins but understand that the council would struggle to access/keep on top of up keep of them but currently just those in/next to the car park . There are a few nature groups around to join plus some fb groups, look out for the fayre's that will now take place and hopefully the beer/cider festival next year ! Great mining history museum to visit while grabbing a cuppa and a cake.

We lost our drone in the lake but it was a beautiful lake. And had a lovely walk around the country park shouting ribbons and mushrooms

Oakwell Country Park
The map wasn’t very clear and there wasn’t many spaced out across the park so we got lost. We did find our way back but ended up walking back to the car park instead of going up to the viewpoint. Still, it was an enjoyable walk after we went to Oakwell Hall. There wasn’t many seats spaced around much like the maps which was a shame. It was quite slippery but I am sure if you came in nice weather in the summer it’ll be fine. Lots of uphill walking.

Royal Victoria Country Park
Overall a lovely place. Good walks and a lot of history. Toilets were clean. Parking expensive which I noted before my visit but plenty of free parking a 4 min walk from the road nearby and just walk in. Lots for kids. Dog friendly. Also can walk the coastal path too. Would recommend.

Billy Neill MBE Country Park
Wonderful resource with lots of different paths and beautiful views over the surrounding countryside. I went in the morning - about 10.30 - and, even though there was quite a large number of cars in the car park, I didn't feel at all uneasy: there was lots of room on the pathways. It is a work in progress, of course, but when the tens of thousands of trees are all planted and are growing, it will be a fantastic wooded area. Also a good number of benches which are situated at intervals and provide a seat so you can admire the view - as well as rest weary legs.
