Eskdale Mill draws its power from the Whillan Beck as it cascades down from the Scafells. The mill and its working machinery are survivors of a bygone age.

It's a lovely place to spend the morning or afternoon, plenty for adults and children, it's a look into times gone by also does workshops, pottery, painting, craft works, woolen mill, and play areas for children plus duck feeding.

Provan Hall
Architect unknownCategory A listedThis was the country seat of the medieval prebend (a sort of large parish) of Barlanark. The priest who lived here would spend six months each year preaching at Glasgow Cathedral and the other six here. Two buildings sit across a courtyard with whinstone walls completing the defensive enclosure. The north block, with its stout stair tower, looks older. However the southern block may simply be much adapted to its current Georgian appearance. The ground-floor vaulted roofs in the north building run in different directions, creating a structure of great stability. A timber tower, like a traditional Scots keep, may once have adjoined its western gable.

What a stunning castle, the best I've been to by far and I've visited many. Would be incredible if more of the upper rooms and a turret could be accessed for views out over the estate to sea.The grounds are also absolutely beautiful and in particular the walled garden. If you need something for the family to do in a rainy day then look no further. This is a gem of a place and we will look forward to returning the next time we are holding in the area.

Like Micheal Portillo but without a lime coloured jacket matched with Crimson Red trousers I do enjoy a good train ride and what better way then with the nostalgia provided here by this excellent steamtrain service. The smell of coal burning and the gentle rickety-rackety lull you into evocative memories of long ago when rain travel was pleasurable. The weather was good, and standing on the boarding outside the cabin was lovely. Highly recommended

Site not open yet after refurbishment , so only got a walk round perimeter.Looking great and looks like it might be opening again soon.Potentially older than Provands Lordship on High St.

Had such a great day out. Super friendly staff, great history and so much to see! Really enjoyed it. Plus plenty of bonus animals to see and a tasty tea room. Highly recommend. Also the fact you can park there, pay for entry then use the carpark to walk to the three cliffs bay is ideal!!! Such a brilliant time!!

Eskdale Mill
We integrated our trip with a journey on the little ratty, Didn't know anything about the water mill but went to a nearby pub for a cool drink, Couldn't see the mill working due to low level of water but if you keep your ticket you can go back within a year free

Grantown Museum
I visited the Grantown Museum on the last weekend of October just before it closed for the season. I had visited a few museums and I thought this one was very good, plenty to read up on. The building is obviously a former school and the rooms are compact inside. There is a five minute introductory film and then you can take your time. They have a small gift shop which was well stocked. I believe the museum reopens in March or April. I paid £5 entry which I thought was very good value for money.

Teign Heritage - Teignmouth & Shaldon Museum
Very interesting talk on Teignmouth's history, built on the marshes. Lots to read and see on the 2 floors. Then a guided tour of the docks side of the town highlighting buildings with historical significance.
